Thyroid Cancer |
One of the greatest tools for following the progress of thyroid cancer is the measurement of thyroglobulin. Anyone who has ever lived with thyroid cancer or has had the responsibility of managing a person with thyroid cancer would attest to the importance of knowing the progress of the tumor in the body. Thyroglobulin measurement is a very accurate and sensitive method which indicates residual tumor or tumor recurrence in the body and can signal a possible relapse of the cancer. Dr. Andre J. Van Herle first developed a clinically useful immunoassay for the measurement of this pro-hormone. This was an important accomplishment that forever changed the management of subjects with thyroid cancer. It was through his dedicated work that efficacy of this method as a tumor marker was proven and established as one of the global standards for the correct management of thyroid cancer. Because of this research numerous people around the world who have had thyroid cancer can have the peace of mind of knowing that cancer in their body has been successfully eradicated.
