Dr. Van Herle obtained his medical degree at the University of Leuven (Belgium).  He completed his residency in Medicine at the same institution.  He then joined the fellowship program at UCLA and joined the endocrine faculty in 1969.  He is a Professor of Medicine and since many years the Director of the Endocrine training program.  Dr. Van Herle is nationally and internationally known for his contributions to thyroidology, and is considered the father of the Thyroglobin assay.  He is an author and a coauthor of more than 100 articles and book chapters.  His current interest is the isolation of anticancer agents and the signal transaction mechanisms involved in their anti tumor properties.
